Guy Sebastian speaks
with Mitch Brook
about success,
family and tourING
regional Australia.
Guy Sebastian sings a few lines of his
hit, 'Battle Scars', as he explains the process he
goes through to develop his songs. He has met
unprecedented success over the past decade and
is the only male Australian artist with six numberone singles locally. He says the melody and lyrics
often come separately; he'll be doing something
else when the melody or a few lyrics come into
his mind, and he'll then sit down and work out
the rest of the song from that. In the case of
'Battle Scars', though, both the words and lyrics
came to him instantly.
"These battle scars / don't look like they're
fadin' / don't look like they're ever going away…"
So the lyrics go in Guy's collaborative song with
American rapper Lupe Fiasco, released on Guy's
number-one album, Armageddon, which reached
double platinum status in Australia.
After his March/April tour of metropolitan
Australia sold out, Guy announced his most
extensive regional tour yet. In May/June he
will perform in 31 regional towns and cities,
including Albury, Port Macquarie, Mildura,
Whyalla, Townsville and Kununurra.
"I guess regional towns miss out on a lot of
shows and a lot of touring acts, while the big cities
like Sydney and Melbourne are more used to it,"
says Guy. "I find there's an energy in regional
centres that's immediate; it's a party from the
outset. I'm looking forward to that!"
