In Spring, view the bears from small boats as they graze on grasses and engage in mating behaviour. During Summer, see the grizzlies gorge on berry patches and graze on grasslands as they move between various feeding habitats. In Autumn, the bears congregate at the river to catch salmon, and you can watch each bear demonstrating its own fishing style. Depending on the season in which you travel to the Great Bear Lodge, you'll experience various viewing points, behaviours and numbers of bears. Day 1. Vancouver to Great Bear Lodge via Seaplane. Fly from Vancouver to Port Hardy, then board a seaplane and fly over Queen Charlotte Strait to the Great Bear Lodge, a remote floating oasis of only five rooms. Here, your grizzly bear experience begins in the late afternoon. Based on where the bears have been most active recently, your guides will take you by boat to the estuary viewing sites or by 4WD to the river viewing sites. Viewing sessions typically last for three hours and are not strenuous. Afterwards, return to the lodge, where wilderness-gourmet meals await. Tonight after dinner, enjoy a presentation explaining the interaction of grizzly bears with this environment. Two Night Stay: Great Bear Lodge, in a private room (shower facilities are shared).
