windowseat Menindee Lakes Menindee Lakes is an expanse of wetlands near the township of Menindee, NSW. The lakes, aside from being picturesque, are home to abundant birdlife and aquatic wildlife, making the area popular with birdwatchers and anglers. The area is steeped in culture, being the land of the Paakantji/Barkindji people, along with history, with five renowned explorers reportedly passing through from 1835 to 1860: Major Thomas Mitchell, Charles Sturt, John McKinlay, and Burke and Wills. Paddle-steamers played an important part in the development of the area and there is even an inland shipwreck here. To top it off, the sunsets and sunrises over the lakes are a breathtaking sight.
