Vernon, Giverny OR Château de Bizy. Enjoy a morning of scenic cruising as you glide through beautiful north-west France. Arrive in Vernon, and perhaps travel to Giverny, former home of the French Impressionist painter, Claude Monet. Here, visit Maison et Jardin Claude-Monet (Monet's House and Garden). As you wander the gardens, take in lovely scenes that inspired many of Monet's famous paintings. Alternatively, tour the palace and gardens of the Château de Bizy (subject to availability). Inspired by Versailles, Château de Bizy is still the home to a branch of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's family. BLD Day 3. Vernon, Rouen. Set in the heart of the Normandy region and once one of the largest cities of medieval Europe, Rouen is a place of incredible history and architecture. A city tour today will take you to some of Rouen's most enthralling sights. Walk among the distinctly French half-timbered houses; see the Cathédral Notre-Dame, which has the highest spire in France; and admire the Gros Horloge, a 16th-century astronomical clock. You'll also learn about the real story of Joan of Arc as you see the 14th-century courthouse where she was sentenced to death as well as the Market Square where she was burnt at the stake. After the tour, enjoy time at leisure. With your ship moored overnight in Rouen, you may like to step out BLD after dinner for an evening stroll. Day 4. Rouen, D-Day Beaches OR Pays d'Auge. Today choose from three excursions. The two that trace the events of D-Day – June 6, 1944, will take you along the Normandy coast to Arromanches, where you'll enjoy free time for lunch and visit the D-Day Museum (own expense). Afterwards, one excursion visits the US cemetery of Colleville/Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, which overlooks Omaha Beach, as well as the Pointe du Hoc Ranger Monument. The second option includes a visit to the Juno Beach Centre and the Pegasus Monument in Ranville, where the first bridge was liberated by British glider troops on D-Day. Alternatively, the third excursion departs Rouen on a trip to the Pays d'Auge, taking in the sights of The Cider Road. Visit traditional towns and villages and enjoy a tour of a Calvados distillery, where you'll sample cider and Calvados. BLD Day 5. Rouen, Honfleur OR The Norman Abbey Circuit. Today, you may like to join an excursion to the pretty city of Honfleur. Here, a sightseeing tour takes in the picturesque port area; Saint-Catherine's Church, the largest wooden church in France; and much more. Then enjoy some time at leisure to explore before returning to Rouen. Alternatively, travel along the historical Route des Abbayes (The Norman Abbey Circuit). Visit the grandiose ruins of Jumièges and discover BLD the beautiful abbey of Saint-Wandrille.
