Prague Castle
According to the Guinness
Book of Records, Prague
Castle is the largest
continuous castle complex
in the world, covering
almost 70,000 square
metres. Dating back to the
ninth century, the castle
consists of an extensive set
of palaces and ecclesiastical
buildings of various
architectural styles. It is
also the residence of the
Czech president.
Heidelberg Castle
Built around the 13th
century, Heidelberg
Castle boasts a dramatic
history, suff ering through
the destruction of war,
fi re and two lightning
strikes. Set against a
backdrop of lush green
forest, the red sandstone
castle and its ruins are
among the most important
Renaissance structures
north of the Alps.
Marksburg Castle
e only castle in the
Rhine Valley to have never
been destroyed, Marksburg
Castle is believed to date
back to the early 12th
century. Marvel at the
stately castle's distinct
tower, citadel, ancient
torture chamber and the
impressive kitchens in the
Gothic Hall building. It
also off ers spectacular views
of Braubach and the Rhine
from its 550-foot perch.
