Downton Abbey — the highly anticipated movie spin-off of the hit television
series — will hit cinemas in September 2019. W hile the full official trailer was
released in May this year, very little of the plot has been given away, keeping
eager fans in suspense.
What we do know is that the fi lm will take
place in 1927, a couple of years after the
fi nale of the popular series, and will centre
around the royal visit of King George V and
Queen Mary to Downton Abbey. e trailer
shows the aristocratic Crawley family and
their servants frantically preparing for the
unexpected visit, which prompts Lady Mary
Crawley (Michelle Dockery) to ask retired
head butler Carson (Jim Carter) to return to
the manor.
e trailer also seems to show Lady Mary
contemplating leaving the Downton Abbey
estate for good.
All the main characters are returning,
including Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville),
Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael), Cora
Crawley (Elizabeth McGovern), Violet
Crawley (Maggie Smith), John Bates
(Brendan Coyle) and Anna Bates (Joanne
Froggatt).
