outtahere Above: The warmer months are perfect for exploring the Australian Alps. was infectious, and though I have to wait until I've done the original section to give it a go, before I've even dipped my toes into the icy water I have the word 'faster' ringing in my ears. The water in the Thredbo River is clear, running smoothly over the large, scattered boulders, and the whole scene is picturesque and serene. Perhaps we're distracted by the pretty river or too busy giggling at our strange attire to register the fact that we'll actually be getting into the river. The water is icy but refreshing, and because we'll be paddling and staying active, the cold temperature won't affect us. Besides, if you're careful enough you might not even get wet, assures Georgia. This extreme li-lo experience is unique and lots of fun as we rush through the rapids, bumping into rocks, sometimes swinging around backwards and dragging over pebbles before shooting out into the calmer waters of the eddies that follow. Though it's a fairly new activity, the guides have already named the rapids. We tumble over the 'Staircase' and manoeuvre ungracefully through the 'Coffin'. 15
