Last September I cruised with my
husband, Michael, from Bangkok
to Hong Kong on Viking Orion.
Viking Orion's modern, elegant
Scandinavian design exceeded our
expectations from the moment
we stepped in to the three-story
atrium and were warmly welcomed
by crew serving glasses of bubbles.
ere were enough reading
nooks and lounge areas that even
on at-sea days you wouldn't know
you were cruising with a little over
900 other passengers.
e peaceful Scandinavian
spaces continued in our well-
appointed stateroom. ere was
ample space to fully unpack
our two large suitcases, great
lighting (I'm in to that!), nice size
bathroom (with heated floors), our
own private balcony and a large flat
screen TV to watch complimentary
on-demand movies from the king-
size bed with luxury linens.
We began most days with a
breakfast of fresh berries with
mascarpone followed by a plate of
smoked Norwegian salmon in the
main dining room. e coffee and
pastries in the atrium were another
favourite.
e steak in Manfredi's (served
simply with grilled lemon) was one
of the best we've had, the prawn
risotto was cooked perfectly and
ere were enough reading nooks and
lounge areas that even on at-sea days you
wouldn't know you were cruising with a
little over 900 other passengers.
their pastas are all made fresh.
We loved the gourmet burgers
served with fries and coleslaw
at the Pool Grill. e waffles in
Mamsen's are also a must and the
suksessterte cake was my favourite!
Our favourite place on the ship
was e Explorer's Lounge where
we would enjoy uninterrupted
ocean views through the two-story
panoramic windows while having
our evening cocktails.
