I feel as if I'm in a French movie in Bordeaux. is is an elegant city of
cobbled squares and neoclassical streetscapes. Shoppers tuck baguettes
under their arms. Teenagers canoodle in parks studded with statues
of kings. In the evening, yellow lamplight throws colour across alleys
and chatter spills from bars. e city culminates in a grand riverside
promenade of flowerbeds and splashing fountains. My sleek white
river ship Viking Foresti couldn't be tied up in a better place.
After two days in Bordeaux I'm reluctant to depart, yet looking
forward to what lies ahead. We're off to sail the Dordogne and
Garonne rivers and the Gironde Estuary where the two unite.
The waterways of France's Bordeaux
region are dense with world-famous
vineyards and culture-rich towns, as
Brian Johnston discovers on a Viking
river cruise
