v i k i n g c r u i s e s . c o m . a u 35 Our Managing Director, Michelle Black, got the chance to go on the King Crab Safari shore excursion in Honningsvåg, Norway. Here's what she had to say about it… Q: This sounds like such an exciting shore excursion – which cruise were you on? A: This optional shore excursion is part of Viking's Into the Midnight Sun cruise and was one of the highlights of my cruise. I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling on this itinerary. Q: What did you have to wear? A: Each guest was given a very unflattering thermal flotation suit – thankfully, as it was only 12 degrees on that day! Q: What did this excursion entail? A: I joined 20 other guests on the dock where we were greeted by the master fishermen. We then set off in a deep-sea raft to the marine farm where the crab traps had been placed out overnight. Q: How many king crabs did you catch? A: The fishermen pulled up the traps to find 10 huge king crabs inside. We took them quickly back to shore, but not before a photo opportunity. Q: Did you get to eat the crabs? A: We certainly did. We joined the fisherman in their Sami tents and the cooked crab meat was washed with fresh seawater and served with semi-sweet biscuits, slices of lemon and creamy mayonnaise. It was out of this world!
