Madelin Tomelty explores the picturesque
south of France on a Viking river cruise
I'm sitting on the balcony of my Veranda stateroom aboard the Viking
Heimdal, glass of champagne in-hand, bare legs propped up on a seat as I
soak up the high summer sun. I've been sitting here for a while, watching
kilometre after kilometre of hilly L'Hermitage vineyards pass by – some
of them so steep and so close to the river it's a wonder they're able to grow
at all – and I'm giving myself a silent 'cheers', because something has just
dawned on me: Deciding to embark on this cruise down the Rhône from
Lyon to Avignon was a very, very good decision.
