Southern yard creates A LEGACY The Stark brothers Andrew, Cameron and Tim, and their Uncle Ralph, run two operations from their base in Lyttelton: the ship and boatbuilding operation Stark Bros Ltd most of us have heard of and, their fishing company, Ocean Fisheries. S tark Brothers general plan is to build and operate four boats for Ocean Fisheries Ltd, with a moderately continuous programme of replacement for the boats of their fleet, k with the newest addition being the next build for Stark Bros. The latest Legacy is part of that programme, and the e designs for her replacement are already being finalised. The Ocean Fisheries fleet consists of four boats: three "big" steel boats for the mid-depth inshore fishing, and the smaller 13.5 metre Nessie J, a kauri timber boat for shallower inshore waters. There's always a kauri timber boat being built in the shed as part of the replacement programme, as these builds provide a great, basic training ground for their up and coming apprentices at Stark Bros. They did a bit of tweaking between Jubilee and Legacy, but they must have got it fairly right for Legacy because the hull of newest boat on the drawing board is as close to that of Legacy's as it is possible to be.
