The large working cockpit.
Note the observation platforms
from heavy duty Orca fabric, and have extra reinforcing and wear
patches in line with the commercial nature of the vessel. Southern
Pacific use a unique construction method to ensure a fair finish
along the tube and to enhance the boats looks.
Once again the air and watertight integrity to the engine room
are protected by Camfil Farr Seaworth defence air water
separators to both air intakes and exhaust to ensure minimal
moisture enters the engine compartment below decks.
At 10.3 tonnes the rescue vessel is powered by twin 480hp
marine diesels engines coupled to two Hamilton 322 water jet
units with Hamiltons unique blueArrow control system making
for an efficient propulsion system with a high standard of
manoeuvrability that delivers a service speed of 25 knots, with
KAB seating for crew safety
a top speed of 37 knots during sea trials. Fuel consumption at
service speed is a total of 130lts per hour.
On first look at the vessel does have that commercial pilot boat
look about her, but there the similarities cease. The large deck
house structure with its reverse sheer front screen and all-round
side windows, designed and manufactured by SeaMac, afford
very good all-round visibility. There are two raised, caged, lookout
observation posts on each rear quarter of the deck house. Wide
side-decks with top grab rails provide ease of access to the foredeck
where there is a central cage for forard crew protection.
Down aft the step down cockpit is fully self-draining, with a solid
transom. A drop-in Perspex slide is provided for safety at sea.
On the stern is a fenced landing platform extending the length
