Adelaide, Port Augusta. Arrive at Adelaide airport before midday and board your 4WD vehicle for the journey north to Port Augusta. Stay: Port Augusta, Standpipe Motel. Day 4. Parachilna Gorge, Blinman, Wilpena Pound. Visit beautiful Parachilna Gorge, stopping in for lunch at the Blinman Hotel. Blinman is an old mining town dating back to 1859 when copper was discovered in the region. Later, continue to Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre of mountains in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. Two Night Stay: Wilpena Pound Resort. BLD D Day 2. Quorn, Marree. Journey back in time at the Wadlata Outback Centre for an insight into the history of the South Australian Outback, before travelling to Quorn. This small town was once the railway crossroads of the nation, where the east-west Indian Pacific line crossed with the north-south Ghan line. Continue to the ruins of Kanyaka Station – a former sheep and cattle station that dates back to 1851. Later, drop in to the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna, en route to Marree. Two Night Stay: Marree Hotel^. Day 5. Wilpena Pound. Take a scenic drive through the Bunyeroo Valley, where you'll notice the impressive razorback ridge and enjoy views of sweeping plains covered in native pine trees. Then, visit spectacular Brachina Gorge, one of the most popular attractions in the Flinders Ranges. Later, walk into Wilpena Pound or take a scenic flight over it's majestic landscape (own expense). Enjoy lunch at the Marree Hotel, before taking a 4WD sightseeing tour to the edge of Lake Eyre's stunning shoreline. Alternatively, replace your touring on Day 3 with a full-day scenic flight to Birdsville over Lake Eyre, skirting the Simpson Desert before stopping at the famous Birdsville Hotel for lunch. Reboard the plane and fly over the Coongie Lakes before landing at Innamincka. See the famous Cooper Creek and visit another popular Outback pub. Fly over Cooper Creek, Lake Eyre and the notorious Birdsville Track on the way back to Marree (alternative Day 3 touring, tour Code: LE06B). Day 6. Clare, Adelaide. Journey via the picturesque towns of Hawker, Wilmington and Melrose on your journey south before stopping for lunch at Clare (own expense).
