Edinburgh, Edinburgh Tattoo This morning, set out by coach for the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway for a trip on one of the lovingly- restored locomotives. The line travels along the shores of the Forth of Firth and climbs into the hills, before pulling into Birkhill, a picturesque town set on a wooded incline. Continue on to Edinburgh, Scotland's cosmopolitan capital, where you will have time to explore the city and enjoy dinner before settling into your seats for the highlight of the trip, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. This musical spectacular, featuring the massed pipes and drums of the Scottish regiments, is set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the ancient city. B Day 3. Glasgow Enjoy a free day in Glasgow, Scotland's biggest city. Glasgow has undergone a cultural revival in recent years to emerge as a sophisticated, vibrant and distinctly European hub. The friendly and welcoming locals are proud of their city's working class and industrial roots, but keen to show its shinier side. The mighty River Clyde remains the city's lifeblood and a symbol of its ship-building past. Admire Charles Rennie Mackintosh's architecture, visible throughout the centre, or discover one of the city's many art galleries and museums. The main shopping precinct offers an eclectic mix of designer fashion, high street staples and flea markets tucked away in side streets where you can discover vintage bargains. B Day 4. West Highland Line, Fort William Today, set off on the West Highland Line, renowned for its incredible views across the Scottish countryside. Sit back and relax in your seat as the train carries you along the banks of rippling lochs and through verdant forests, past waterfalls streaming down craggy rock-faces. Rugged peaks and untamed moorland stretch as far as the eye can see, arriving at Fort William, under the looming bulk of Ben Nevis. Later, enjoy a cruise on Loch Linnhe and enjoy the dramatic mountain scenery and the chance to spot local wildlife, before returning by coach to Glasgow, through the ski-resort region of Glencoe and the glorious Loch Lomond.
