30 7 Days Day 1. Bergen You'll know you've arrived in Norway from your first glimpse of Bergen. The seaside city is surrounded by fjords and mountains with charming, colourful, wooden houses and a historic and vibrant waterfront. You'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, which is located close to the bustling harbour and waterfront. Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Manager this evening at a Welcome Dinner. Two Nights: Bergen, Clarion Hotel Admiral. D Day 2. Bergen This morning you'll get your bearings on a guided walking tour of Bergen. Visit the delightful Bryggen waterfront, the city's old trading wharf and a World Heritage site. This is the oldest part of Bergen – with some buildings dating back to the 15th century. This afternoon is then free for you to continue exploring Bergen at your leisure. Perhaps see how the merchants' dwellings on Bryggen would have looked in the early 18th century at the Hanseatic Museum, which includes rooms furnished in late Hansa style. A journey on the Fløibanen Funicular to the top of Fløyen Mountain (320 metres above sea level) provides superb views over the city. Alternatively, you could visit one of the Bergen's many galleries and museums. Bergen's Art Gallery exhibits a vast collection of works by Norwegian artists, including many of the works of Edvard Munch. You may prefer to relax at the hotel or perhaps wander back down to the lively waterfront precinct and find an inviting restaurant, bar or café and watch the world go by. B Day 3. Bergen to Flåm Today, travel through some of Norway's most breathtaking scenery across the incredible fjordland region on two of the most scenic train journeys in Scandinavia. The Bergen Railway takes us 'across the roof of Norway' on Northern Europe's highest altitude line. Pass through Dale and Voss as the train climbs towards the isolated mountain station of Myrdal. From here, continue on board the Flåm Railway, on a journey of 20 kilometres to the foot of the fjord, via a multitude of twists and turns. This incredibly scenic section of railway provides us with stunning mountain panoramas and passes spectacular waterfalls before arriving at the Aurlandsfjord, a huge body of water where steep- sided cliffs rise more than 900 metres above the shoreline. Located at the head of the fjord, at its southernmost point, is the fjordside village of Flåm, which occupies one of the most picturesque settings in Europe, surrounded by bare-rock cliffs, verdant forests, lush green pastures and the serenely beautiful fjord. Two Nights: Flåm, Fretheim Hotel. BD Day 4. Flåm & Fjords Cruise This morning is free to enjoy exploring the sights of Flåm. You may wish to visit the small railway museum, complete with its full miniature scale replica of the old lines that once cut through this rugged area. This afternoon, board a boat on the Aurlandsfjord for a fabulous cruise. Aurlandsfjord is a 17 kilometre branch of the world's second longest fjord, the Sognefjord (204 kilometres).
