44 12 Days | Five Countries Day 1. Arrive Munich, Nuremberg Fly into Munich and be transferred to your hotel in Nuremberg. Stay: Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nuremberg or similar. Day 2. Nuremberg After a morning at leisure, board the river ship that awaits you. Tonight, enjoy an elegant Welcome Reception on board. Seven Nights: aboard your Travelmarvel river ship. BLD Day 3. Regensburg Having reached the Danube River overnight, dock in Regensburg. Medieval stories come to life in this charming town, and your guide is sure to regale you with far-fetched tales. You'll marvel at legendary sights including the Stone Bridge and the Regensburg Cathedral, before reboarding your ship. Later, enjoy an authentic Bavarian evening on board with beer, snacks and entertainment. BLD Day 4. Passau, Linz Awake in the pretty 'Three Rivers City' of Passau, where the rivers Inn and Ilz join the Danube. On a guided walk, stroll past the city's colourful buildings, such as the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) on the riverbank. You'll soon see that Passau flaunts a distinctly baroque character, as the town was rebuilt in the style after two catastrophic fires destroyed it in the 1600s. Later, cruise across the border into Austria on the way to the picturesque city of Linz. This evening, enjoy some free time to explore the city, perhaps visiting the Mauthausen Memorial – a poignant tribute to the lives taken at nearby concentration camps in World War II. BLD Day 5. Melk, Dürnstein Dock in Melk and join a local guide for a tour through magnificent Melk Abbey. An active Benedictine monastery since 1089, the building sits majestically atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube River. After, cruise to Dürnstein, where a walk through the cobbled streets leads to 16th-century town houses and taverns. The town is overlooked by the hilltop ruins of the castle where legendary King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in 1192. Tonight, enjoy a sumptuous dinner on board. BLD Day 6. Vienna Embrace the splendour and elegance of Vienna as you drive around the Ringstrasse. You'll learn about some of the city's most famous buildings, including the Vienna State Opera House, the Museum of Fine Arts and more. In the city centre, join a walking tour that takes you past such sights as St Stephen's Cathedral, the Graben, Hofburg Palace and the Albertina. Afterwards, pay a visit to the famous Naschmarkt. Browse the fresh produce stalls and sample some local delicacies, including delicious Kaiserschmarrn and Palatschinken. BLD Day 7. Vienna Today you decide on how to shape your experience in glorious Vienna. Perhaps visit the Hofburg area, where you'll find the Imperial Treasury and the Spanish Riding School, home to the celebrated Lipizzan horses. Or perhaps head to a cosy coffee house where you can try a traditional Sachertorte – a chocolate tart with a lush apricot filling. Be sure to ask your expert Cruise Director for any insider tips before your big day out. You can always try one of our incredible optional experiences, such as a Mozart and Strauss classical concert (see page 108).
