88 Day 1. Arrive San Francisco Arrive in San Francisco, be met and transferred to your hotel. Three Nights: San Francisco, Westin St Francis. Day 2. San Francisco Enjoy a tour today that takes in the Golden Gate Bridge and the popular Fisherman's Wharf. You'll also visit the infamous island of Alcatraz, once a federal penitentiary that housed criminals such as Al Capone. Day 3. San Francisco Today sees you with plenty of time at leisure to seize the opportunity to explore the city of San Francisco at your own pace. Perhaps you might like to discover the vibrant streets of Chinatown, the oldest Chinatown in North America, and make a visit to the intriguing Golden Gate Fortune Cookie factory. Maybe ride the trams (cable cars) up and down the hilly streets, and visit the world-famous winding Lombard Street. Day 4. Yosemite National Park Journey by train on the San Joaquin route through California's Central Valley, bordered by the coastal mountain ranges and Yosemite National Park. At Merced you'll board a coach to Yosemite itself to enjoy a tour of the Valley Floor, taking in views of Half Dome, the 3,000 ft El Capitan and the spectacular Bridalveil Falls. Afterwards, head back to Merced to spend the night. Stay: Merced, Courtyard by Marriot Hotel. Day 5. Las Vegas Continue the journey on the San Joaquin route southwards today. Arriving in Bakersfield, you'll transfer by coach across the Mojave Desert into Las Vegas in the state of Nevada. Two Nights: Las Vegas, Harrah's Hotel. Day 6. Las Vegas Explore incredible Las Vegas at leisure today. The Las Vegas monorail is a great way to discover the amazing sights and spectacles of the famous Strip and its variety of resorts. Absorb the atmosphere and enjoy an extraordinary selection of entertainment choices on your doorstep including the world-famous casinos. Day 7. Hoover Dam Head across Nevada to Arizona, via the Hoover Dam. Entering Arizona you'll drive on the legendary Route 66. Arrive in Flagstaff, for a two night stay amidst 500 picturesque acres of ponderosa pine forest. Two Nights: Flagstaff, Little America Hotel. Day 8. Grand Canyon Travel in vintage carriages hauled by historic locomotives on the Grand Canyon Railway to see the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon. Created by the Colorado River over a period of 6 million years, the canyon is up to 18 miles wide, and a mile deep. Arrive at the South Rim and main viewpoint of the Canyon to take in dramatic vistas. Perhaps take a flight over the Canyon (own expense). Day 9. Monument Valley You'll feel like you're in the middle of an American Western film today as you drive through Navajo country and Utah's Monument Valley. The whole region evokes the feeling of a time gone by, with cowboys still herding cattle across untouched hills and Native Americans performing rituals passed down through the ages.
