You also have plenty of opportunities to discover the comfortable public areas available to you on board your ship. BLD Day 12. Tracy Arm, Juneau Today visit Juneau, which is Alaska's capital. Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, the massive Mendenhall Glacier and Juneau Icefields are situated at the city's back door. Spend some time in Juneau to take in the diverse terrain or perhaps make your way to the town and explore the rustic shops that are located here. Alternatively, those seeking more adventure may like to experience an exhilarating dog sled ride over a glacier. Perhaps sample delicious salmon baked in the traditional way over a fire or even try your hand at panning for gold (all options are at own expense). BLD Day 13. Skagway Today you'll dock at the port of Skagway, which is located at the northernmost point of the Inside Passage. Skagway was once a frontier town and gateway to the Klondike and still celebrates its gold rush past to this day. You will find a variety of stores and saloons in town that capture the excitement and history of the gold rush days. Here you'll also have the opportunity to learn more about gold prospecting or view some of the fascinating local wildlife (both options at own expense). Reboard your ship and enjoy dinner on board this evening. BLD Day 14. Glacier Bay Wake up to the breathtaking sight of Glacier Bay National Park this morning, with its formidable rivers of ice, wild coastline and sheltered fjords. As you cruise through the national park, it is easy to see why the area has received World Heritage status. Today, knowledgeable local rangers will join you on board. They will explain the geological wonders and diverse wildlife of this incredible region, giving you an insight into what makes this area of Alaska so incredibly unique. BLD Day 15. Ketchikan Arrive in Ketchikan, renowned for its idyllic scenery, rich Alaskan Native culture, and as the salmon capital of the world. Enjoy free time to explore this southernmost entrance to the Inside Passage. Perhaps join a walking tour of the town, or learn about Tlingit culture including the significance of totem poles at Saxman Native Village (both own expense). BLD Day 16.
