Discover Mystical Myanmar
Cut off from western influences until only
recently, Myanmar exudes an exotic,
almost mystical allure. Here, you'll
encounter ornate pagodas and gilded
religious stupas, thriving cities built on
river's edge, gracious people, irresistible
flavours and entire villages floating on
a lake. Immerse yourself in age-old
Burmese traditions. And learn about
the sacred cultures that have remained
unchanged for many centuries.
The Vibrant City of Yangon
A former capital of Myanmar, Yangon is
known as the Garden City of the East
due to its lush tropical setting. At its centre
is a stunning showcase of timeless colonial
architecture, Shwedagon Pagoda – among
the most sacred of all Myanmar's pagodas
– and the bustling Bogyoke Aung San
Market. And each night when the sun sets,
quaint street stalls come to life, selling
unique cuisine derived from a fusion
of local, Chinese and Indian influences.
Treasures of Mandalay
Situated on the east bank of the peaceful
Irrawaddy River, Mandalay is considered
the cultural heart of Myanmar – with good
reason. Here, traditional arts abound,
as does a thriving craft community and a
number of markets. Take into account the
glittering array of temples and pagodas,
including the spectacularly reconstructed
Mandalay Palace, and a visit to the last
royal capital of the Myanmar kingdom
is certain to captivate.
