27 KIMBERLEY COAST CRUISING PERSONAL SERVICE Craig Ward As someone who has worked in the Kimberley since 2005, Craig Ward's passion speaks for itself. This experienced dive instructor, marine biologist and ship captain studied Zoology and Ecology at James Cook University, and was an avid reader on all things Kimberley before he travelled to this incredible region. Once he arrived, he began taking detailed notes. Craig himself says about the Kimberley, "It is one of the few places in the world that has called me back year after year and I have answered without hesitation." Jamie Watts Bringing to the Kimberley a wealth of knowledge as a fisheries consultant, researcher and marine life educator, Jamie has written for several magazines and spends most of the year on expedition ships. He has been a scientist and marine ecologist for the British Antarctic Survey and is currently finishing his first book, on Antarctic marine life. 2017 will be Jamie's second season in the fascinating Kimberley region, and he looks forward to bringing his extensive research and marine experience with him. Lea McQuillan Lea's love of the Kimberley was sparked when she worked with the Western Australian Museum on various research projects during her Master of Environmental Management. The marine biologist was captivated by the rugged landscapes, unique flora and fauna, and rich Indigenous culture. With eight years' experience in the Kimberley, Lea is eager to help APT's guests understand this unique region further. Prior to her work in the Kimberley, Lea worked on various international research projects in the field of marine science. Jane Wilson With extensive experience in the region, you can feel confident with Jane leading you through the Kimberley. Previously a research scientist, for the past 10 years Jane has worked on expedition vessels as a Zodiac driver, lecturer and expedition leader. Aside from having expertise in the Kimberley, Jane has also covered remote regions including South America, the Arctic, Antarctica, Europe and Southeast Asia. When Jane is not showing the remote wonders of the Kimberley, she is Voyage leader for the Australian Antarctic Division. 27 MEET YOUR EXPEDITION TEAM 27 MEET YOUR EXPEDITION TEAM A (not so) Typical Day While there's no such thing as a 'typical day' on a Small Ship Expedition cruise, here is a glimpse at a potential day in the Kimberley: For Those That Rise Early Some are headed for a fresh pot of coffee; others for a morning spa. The Expedition Team, are readying the Zodiacs for shore excursions. Breakfast at Leisure A buffet breakfast includes an assortment of cooked and continental items. Morning Zodiac Expedition It's time to don outdoor gear and set off for a shore landing. Some guests may enjoy a guided nature walk. Others may opt for a more casual Zodiac cruise. An Energising Lunch After an energetic morning, it's time for lunch in the dining room or a light buffet in the bar. Afternoon Shore Landing Travel ashore to get up close to ancient Indigenous rock art dating back some 20,000 years. Perhaps learn about the history of World War II as you discover a plane wreckage, or get up close to a marvellous waterfall. Pre-Dinner Presentation Before dinner, a daily re-cap takes place, at which wildlife sightings are confirmed and tomorrow's proposed landings reviewed. In The Evening Dinner is as delicious as usual, accompanied by beer and a range of wines. After dinner, some retire to their suite; many enjoy an informative talk; and others meet in the bar for a drink.
