The swish of cards may have been what the former
gaming capital of the U.S. was known for, but today,
more than neon lights shine brightly in this now-
outdoorsy city. Ski, bike, or hike the snow-capped
Sierra Nevada or head from the hills to the Reno
River Festival, where the world's best kayakers gather
for whitewater, music, and more. Each fall, 150,000
spectators head out to Rancho San Rafael Regional
Park for the three-day Great Reno Balloon Race; all
year, a trip to the beach is just a short ride away to
Lake Tahoe.
Of course, the sun does have to set. When that
happens, "The Biggest Little City in the World" shows
that it hasn't changed too much. A stroll down the
River Walk will lead you to where food and art takes
over CalAve, and downtown lounges provide great
views of the iconic Reno Arch. Get down and dance in
Vegas-style clubs without the Vegas-style lines, or get
down to earth in an Old West saloon. Just by visiting
Reno, you'll already have hit the jackpot.
