41 SOUTH AMERICA Day 9. Rio de Janeiro, Iguassu Falls, Freedom of Choice. Board your flight to Iguassu Falls, an impressive system of waterfalls that straddles the border of Argentina and Brazil. You may wish to step aboard a boat ride safari and take in the breathtaking spectacle of Iguassu Falls from beneath the thundering cascades. Alternatively, embark on an awe-inspiring helicopter ride over the falls. This evening, dine at the Ipê Grill within your hotel. Two Night Stay: Iguassu Falls, Hotel das Cataratas. BD Day 10. Iguassu Falls. Spend time in World Heritage-listed Iguassu National Park on the Argentinian side of the falls. Ride the Rainforest Ecological Train to a series of walkways and viewing points. Return to your hotel, located just a stroll from the falls. B Day 11. Iguassu Falls, Lima (Peru). Walk through the giant aviaries and get up close to a range of native South American birds, including the iconic toucan, at Parque das Aves Bird Park. This evening, board your flight to the Peruvian capital, Lima. Two Night Stay: JW Marriott Hotel Lima, Ocean View Rooms. B Day 12. Lima. Explore the World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Lima where you will see the Convent of Santo Domingo, one of the best preserved monasteries in the city. Afterwards, a visit to a private hacienda will showcase regional traditions. Arrive to the upbeat rhythms of live music and dance, before enjoying lunch and an elegant Peruvian Paso horse show. BL Day 13. Lima, Cusco, Chincheros, Sacred Valley. Board a flight to Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. On arrival, travel to Chincheros in the Andean highlands. During a weaving demonstration, learn how the famously colourful materials of South America are created. Tonight, stay overlooking a river in the Sacred Valley. Three Night Stay: Sacred Valley, Tambo del Inka, Luxury Collection by Starwood. B Day 14. Sacred Valley, Freedom of Choice. With a free morning, perhaps explore your picturesque surrounds via one of the hotel's walking trails. Later, taste a range of local craft beers at the Sacred Valley Brewing Company. Or, visit the workshop of a local ceramics studio where you'll meet the owner and watch artisans create beautiful ceramics. BD Day 15. Sacred Valley, Maras, Moray. Witness the dazzling sight of the Maras salt mines, where thousands of salt pools spill over the side of a steep terraced slope. Then, travel to the Moray archaeological site, a fascinating collection of ancient terraced fields which were likely used by the Incas for agricultural experiments. Here, enjoy stunning views out over the deep terraces during lunch at El Parador de Moray. BL Day 16. Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu. Board PeruRail's Vistadome train and admire the mountainous Andean landscape as you travel to Machu Picchu. On arrival at the ruins, set off on a guided tour. This ancient Inca citadel remained undiscovered in modern times until the American historian, Hiram Bingham, brought it to international attention in 1911. Stay: Machu Picchu, Sumaq Hotel. BD Day 17. Machu Picchu, Cusco. You will have the chance to beat the morning rush and return to experience Machu Picchu in its true serenity at your own pace. Then, board PeruRail's Vistadome train for your return trip to the Sacred Valley, then transfer by coach to Cusco. On arrival in Cusco, check in to your hotel and absorb the Spanish colonial charm.
