Freycinet National Park Guided Walk A naturalist guide will take you on a walk through spectacular Freycinet National Park. Set beneath the towering pink granite peaks of the Hazards, Mt Graham and Mt Freycinet, and edged by white sandy beaches with glittering azure seas, this is a truly breathtaking place. Abundant with wildlife, this is an excellent place to try and spot the elusive white-bellied sea-eagle, or a friendly wallaby or two. Port Arthur Historic Site Across manicured lawns towards the bay rests Port Arthur Historic Site's largest building – the haunting sandstone Penitentiary. This is the enduring image of Tasmania's convict past. A former British penal colony, the eerie and impressive architectural ruins remain standing for all to see. As a local guide leads you through the historic site, you'll discover a nation built on the backs of convicts, and learn of the people who once lived in these cells with their unique stories of salvation, savagery and survival. House of Anvers Chocolate Factory Learn about the art of chocolate-making at the House of Anvers. Be guided through the chocolate factory where you'll witness the creation of truffles, pralines, fudges and, of course, chocolate. You'll also visit the Museum of Chocolate and discover how the much-loved treat came to be as it is known today. Beaconsfield Guided Tour In the gold mining town of Beaconsfield, visit the Mine & Heritage Centre, where you'll enjoy a locally-guided tour. Step back in time as you learn about the rich history of the region and discover more than 10,000 artefacts and industrial relics from Beaconsfield and the surrounding Tamar Valley. Maria Island National Park Discover this rare jewel in the Tasman sea, where whales and dolphins frolic in the tides and rare endemic bird species soar and plummet for a bounty of fish in the abundant waters. On land, historic ruins reflect a dark convict past. Port Davey Enjoy two days exploring the forgotten rivers, deep gorges and tiny islands of Port Davey, a stunning marine reserve that forms part of the renowned Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. You'll visit places that are only accessible by water, enjoying incredible insight into the biodiversity of this remote region. – www.travelmarvel.com.au –
