28 Feel at one with the maritime spirit of charming Hobart Day 1. Arrive Launceston, Freedom of Choice. Be met on arrival in Launceston and transferred to your hotel. After settling in, explore the city on a tour before your selected activity. Perhaps explore the underwater wonders of Seahorse World, tour the Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre or see the elusive platypus at Platypus House. Alternatively, enjoy a tour and tasting at James Boag's Brewery or delight in a high tea at your hotel. This evening, get to know your fellow travellers and Tour Director over a Welcome Dinner & Drink. You'll also learn some cooking tips from the chef at the Hotel Grand Chancellor. Stay: Launceston, Hotel Grand Chancellor. FD Day 2. Bridestowe Lavender Estate, East Coast Natureworld, Freycinet National Park. Travel through the scenic wine-producing area of northern Tasmania. At Bridestowe Lavender Estate, take a tour of the distillery and sample some unique lavender-infused fare. Afterwards, traverse Weldborough Pass and stop at East Coast Natureworld to meet a rare Tasmanian devil. Then continue on to Freycinet National Park, and enjoy a guided walk along Cape Tourville, admiring the coastal scenery. This evening, savour an exclusive Gourmet BBQ overlooking Coles Bay (weather permitting). APT HIGHLIGHT! Stay: Freycinet National Park, Freycinet Lodge. B, FD SCENIC FLIGHT OVER FREYCINET Perhaps take a scenic flight over Freycinet National Park. See page 33 for details. Day 3. Freycinet National Park, Richmond, Tasman National Park, Port Arthur. This morning, explore the wonders of Freycinet National Park and perhaps take a walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout. Continue on via the heritage town of Richmond and the dramatic coastline of Eaglehawk Neck on the way into Tasman National Park, home to the Tessellated Pavement, Devils Kitchen and Tasman Arch. Tonight, dine in Port Arthur. Stay: Port Arthur Motor Inn, overlooking the historic site. BD Day 4. Port Arthur Historic Site, Hobart, Freedom of Choice. Explore the Port Arthur Historic Site, once Australia's most notorious convict prison. Then cruise around the Isle of the Dead and hear about the convicts buried there. Later, arrive in Hobart and visit the Botanical Gardens. Tonight, choose from a range of tempting restaurants for dinner. Two Night Stay: Hobart, Hotel Grand Chancellor, harbour view room. B, FD Day 5. Hobart, Salamanca Market, Freedom of Choice. After wandering through the Salamanca Market this morning, you may like to experience the Tahune AirWalk, visit the Museum of Old & New Art or embark on one of the two walking tours available. The rest of the day is then at leisure. B BRUNY ISLAND ADVENTURE CRUISE Perhaps take a cruise around South Bruny National Park. See page 33 for details. Day 6. Russell Falls, Cradle Mountain- Lake St Clair National Park, Strahan. Travel to Mt Field National Park, where a short walk takes you to Russell Falls. Then head into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area to Lake St Clair before visiting The Wall in the Wilderness. Continue via Queenstown to Strahan.
