34 Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd, on the shore of Lake Tekapo Day 17. Napier, Taupo, Rotorua. Journey through Esk Valley and Te Pohue, stopping at the charming town of Taupo, situated alongside New Zealand's largest lake – Lake Taupo. Taupo is a centre of volcanic and geothermal activity and the volcanic mountain of Mount Tauhara lies six kilometres to its east. Then, enjoy a taste of rural life with a tour and dinner at Longlands Farm in Matamata. Travel to Rotorua after dinner, the geothermal capital of New Zealand. Two Night Stay: Millennium Hotel Rotorua. B, FD Day 18. Rotorua, Freedom of Choice. Today, choose how you wish to explore Rotorua with a range of Freedom of Choice Sightseeing activities. Enjoy a sheep show at the Agrodome followed by a kiwi encounter and a visit to Te Puia Thermal Reserve, or visit Wai-O-Tapu on an eco-thermal tour. Alternatively, see some of the incredible sets from the Lord of the Rings, or learn about the region's history at the Rotorua Museum, located in the historic Bath House building in Government Gardens. Tonight at the Tamaki Maori Village, experience the dance, music and culture of the Maori people as you enjoy a traditional Hangi Feast. B, FD Day 19. Rotorua, Bay of Islands. Travel through the lush Waikato farmland to the pretty town of Cambridge, nestled along the banks of the Waikato River and home to leafy streets, heritage buildings and many antique shops. Then, continue north to Auckland. Follow the east coast Pacific Ocean Drive to Paihia, a bustling seaside town set right in the heart of the spectacular Bay of Islands. Known as the 'Jewel of the Bay of Islands', the tourist mecca of Paihia boasts golden sand beaches and spectacular views from every angle. During your time exploring the Bay of Islands, you'll stay at the conveniently located Scenic Hotel, a stunning resort-style property set amid beautifully landscaped grounds. Two Night Stay: Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands. BD Day 20. Bay of Islands, Freedom of Choice. Today offers you the perfect chance to explore the sensational Bay of Islands, home to an incredible 144 islands. After breakfast, choose to explore your own way with your preferred sightseeing activity. For the adventurous, a tall ship sailing adventure with a barbecue lunch might be the ideal way to discover the region, or you might like to embark on a fascinating dolphin-watching cruise that'll get you right up close to these intelligent creatures. Perhaps you might want to cruise to Russell to see New Zealand's first European settlement with its historical buildings and museums or maybe enjoy a guided tour of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. There's also the option of taking a day trip to the northernmost point of New Zealand at Cape Reinga. Here, you'll drive along the sands of Ninety Mile Beach and see the famous Cape Reinga lighthouse. B Day 21. Bay of Islands Cruise, Auckland. Step aboard a catamaran today and enjoy a cruise to Cape Brett and the famous Hole in the Rock. Cruise the shimmering waters as you hear about the ecology and history of the area and keep an eye out for dolphins in this subtropical marine paradise. Marvel at the narrow rock walls at the famous Hole in the Rock, and relax in a secluded bay. Afterwards, re-board your coach and continue down the coast to Auckland, often called the 'City of Sails' due to the popularity of sailing in the region with more than 100,000 yachts and launches registered in the city. Two Night Stay: Crowne Plaza Auckland. B Day 22. Auckland, Freedom of Choice. Enjoy the freedom to choose from a range of included sightseeing activities today. These include a sail boat cruise on Waitemata Harbour; or a visit to the fascinating Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium where you can learn about sharks, eels and many varieties of fish. Other options are a visit to the Auckland Museum; a Bush & Beach Wilderness Adventure; or a Waiheke Wine Tour on Waiheke Island. This evening, enjoy a special Farewell Dinner and drinks with your fellow travellers and APT Tour Director. B, FD Day 23. Depart Auckland.
