Along the busy ghats that line the Ganges, the spiritual heart of India resides.
This poignant place of life and mortality sees pilgrims flock to the river every day.
Day 1. Kolkata, Fly to Varanasi.
Foregoing the touring on the final day of your
main tour, depart Kolkata after breakfast and
fly to Varanasi. Then transfer to your hotel and
enjoy an orientation tour of the city.
Stay (Two Nights): Rivatas by Ideal, Varanasi.
Day 2. Varanasi.
Like a Local – awake in Varanasi and enjoy
a guided boat ride on the River Ganges to
experience the rituals of the Hindus.
After breakfast back at your hotel, head out
on a guided sightseeing tour. Joined by a local
guide, you'll visit Banaras Hindu University
and a number of sites including the Durga,
Kashi Vishwanath, and Bharat Mata temples,
some of which were opened by Mahatma
Gandhi himself in the 1930s. After lunch,
enjoy free time to explore all the wonderful
sights this afternoon. BL
Day 3. Depart Varanasi.
Following breakfast this morning, you'll visit the
ancient ruins of Sarnath, where Buddha gave his
first sermon some 2,500 years ago. See the
many Buddhist monuments that were erected
here, all set within magnificent gardens, as well
as the famous deer park. After an authentic
lunch at a local restaurant, transfer to the
airport for your onward flight. BL
