On arrival, you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Stay: Negombo, Jetwing Lagoon. Day 2. Anuradhapura, Sigiriya. After breakfast, head to Anuradhapura, where you'll embark on a city tour. Discover the palaces and stupas of the enthralling Cultural Triangle, and then continue to Sigiriya to enjoy a Welcome Dinner. Sigiriya. Travel to the World Heritage-listed ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya this morning, which currently stands in ruin. Admire the spectacular geological formation, sometimes referred to as Lion Rock, which rises 200 metres above sea level. Equally superb are the surrounds, including the beautiful gardens, moats and ramparts. If you are feeling active, perhaps climb the rock fortress for spectacular views at its summit. Later this afternoon, enjoy a tour of the well-preserved, ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa, which include a Royal Palace and four splendid statues of Buddha carved out of rock. After breakfast, venture to the World Heritage- listed Dambulla Cave Temple. Within the cave complex are incredible Buddha images and rock paintings dating from 200BC until the 18th-century. Explore the five caves, containing ornate statues and ancient art relating to the life of Buddha. A Taste of Sri Lanka – enjoy lunch and a cooking demonstration at Spice Gardens, followed by a traditional head and shoulder massage. Feeling relaxed and satisfied, you'll then travel on to your hotel in Kandy. In the afternoon, a guided sightseeing tour of Kandy includes a visit to the Temple of the Tooth, which houses one of Buddhism's most sacred relics – the tooth of Buddha.
