27 Nashipara Palace and Kathgola Palace, both fine examples of the fusion between English and Indian cultures of the 19th-century 'White Mughal' period. BLD Day 7. Baranagar, Hooghly River. Disembark in the sleepy village of Baranagar where you'll experience rural India at its most idyllic as you walk through fields and past terracotta temples. Once you're back on board, relax as your river ship glides along the Hooghly River, a distributary of the Lower Ganges. From enormous bridges to lush expanses of rice fields, specks of forest to orchards of mango trees – this is a completely different side to India you don't often see in the guidebooks. BLD Day 8. Jangipur, Gaur. Today you have a choice of two exciting sightseeing activities. Perhaps stay onboard and cruise from Jangipur to the Farakka Barrage. The afternoon is then yours to spend at leisure. Alternatively, take a day trip to the deserted city of Gaur, a unique archaeological site. BLD Day 9. Farakka, Disembark Cruise, Kolkata. Rise early and disembark your cruise in Farakka. Like a Local – transfer to a local train for the colourful and rustic journey back to Kolkata. Make your way past bellowing food hawkers and over-laden porters to your rail carriage. Later, explore the city sights on a guided sightseeing tour. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at Sonargaon Restaurant later this evening. Stay: Kolkata, Taj Bengal. BLD Day 10. Depart Kolkata.
