Vernon, Giverny. When you awake, your ship will be cruising through north-west France. On arrival in Vernon, enjoy a trip to Giverny, home of Claude Monet, a founder of French impressionist painting. Here, visit Maison et Jardin Claude-Monet (Monet's House and Garden). As you wander the gardens, see the water garden with its Japanese bridge, water lilies, wisteria and azaleas. Afterwards, enjoy time at leisure to explore the cobbled streets of Vernon then re-board your ship for dinner. BLD Day 3. Vernon, Rouen. Set in the heart of the Normandy region, Rouen is a place of incredible history and architecture. Here today, a tour will take you to such places as the Cathédral Notre-Dame, which has the highest spire in France and was the subject of several Monet paintings. You'll also see the Gros Horloge, a 16th-century astronomical clock, as well as the 14th-century courthouse where Joan of Arc was sentenced to death, as well as the Market Square where she was burnt at the stake. After the tour, enjoy time at leisure this afternoon to further explore. With your ship moored overnight in Rouen, you may like to step out after dinner for an evening stroll. BLD Day 4. Rouen, Normandy Beaches OR Caen & Pays d'Auge. Today choose from two different sightseeing options. Perhaps set off on an excursion to several Normandy beaches and learn about the events of the famous Normandy landings, which occurred during the Allied Invasion of Normandy of World War II. Alternatively, travel across the lovely Norman countryside on an excursion to Caen – located just 15 kilometres from the English Channel. The site of the Battle of Caen – which occurred during the historic Battle of Normandy – Caen was largely destroyed during World War II. During your time here, you'll see several memorials for the landings at Normandy, the Battle for Caen and indeed the Second World War. Afterwards, continue through the Pays d'Auge – an area that seemingly epitomises the Norman countryside. See the charming timber-framed houses of the towns and the Norman cows grazing in the lush green fields then return to your ship in Rouen. BLD Day 5. Rouen, Honfleur OR Routes des Abbayes. Today disembark and perhaps join an excursion to the port city of Honfleur, set at the Seine estuary, opposite Le Havre. Here, a tour takes in the cobbled streets, the picturesque port area and more. Then enjoy some time at leisure. Alternatively, travel a stretch of the Routes des Abbayes (The Norman Abbey Circuit). With a local guide, visit the grandiose ruins of Jumièges and discover St-Wandrille, the Trappist monastery in Soligny-la-Trappe. After your activity, return to your ship in Rouen.
