Peru | 41 ALL ABOARD! Depending on your arrival time, you may be able to get a head start on tomorrow's tour. DAY 2: Best of Lima – Colonial City and Rafael Larco Herrera Museum Tour Get a glimpse of pre-Columbian art and learn all about the history of this fascinating county and its people, from the original hunter-gatherers to today's society. Pick-up and drop- off are included in this tour, and you'll return to your hotel in time for any evening plans you may have made. DAY 3: Lima/Cusco You'll be taken to the airport early to fly to Cusco, where you'll be transferred to the hotel you've chosen. The afternoon brings you to the Sacsayhuaman Fortress and Ruins, a formidable walled archaeological park incorporating 200- plus sites on 3,094 hectares, considered one of the most impressive monuments ever built by mankind, without even a trace of mortar. A colonial church and monastery are part of the attraction. DAY 4: Cusco/Puno/Lake Titicaca Depart Cusco aboard PeruRail's Andean Explorer train, bound for this stunning lake region—a journey included on the tour. A transfer will get you to the train stations in Cusco and Puno, and a three-course lunch with a non-alcoholic beverage accompanies the passing landscapes on your ride. A scenic stop at La Raya affords photo opportunities of the mountain pass, and free time and an overnight in Puno, the region's capital, provide another break. Note: Departures are limited to Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays year-round, with an additional Friday departure available from April to October. DAY 5: Full-Day Uros and Taquile Islands Tour In the heart of the Lake Titicaca—the highest navigable lake in the world—area, you'll explore Incan ruins and get the chance to interact with the indigenous people of Taquile, observing their customs and traditions. Uros' astounding man-made floating islands, made entirely out of reeds, are a fascinating sight to behold as well. A drop-off in Puno leaves the evening free. DAY 6: Puno/Cusco Hop on board the Andean Explorer again, back to Cusco. All train station and hotel transfers are included. Stay in Cusco, the puma-shaped "Navel of the Earth," for the night. DAY 7: Cusco/Machu Picchu Embark on the luxurious 1920s Pullman carriage-style Belmond Hiram Bingham train to travel in style; enjoy an included brunch on board. The hotel transfer to Poroy Station and bus and entrance fee to the astounding Machu Picchu Citadel are all taken care of. Upon arrival, the remainder of the day is at your leisure. DAY 8: Machu Picchu Your hotel's convenient location will allow you to walk right to the Citadel for a full-day visit to Peru's main tourist destination, and one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. In the center of the Andean Cloud Forest, renowned structures like the Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Moon, and Inti Punku stand tall for you to snap that once-in-a-lifetime shot from the height of the mountains. End your adventure with a train ride back to Cusco via the Hiram Bingham to spend the night there. DAY 9: Cusco/Lima Fly back to Lima for a last glance and to see any sights you may have missed, or revisit ones that caught your eye on arrival. An overnight stay ensures that you have plenty of time to enjoy a final day in Peru. DAY 10: Departure Return home from Lima's international airport.
