75 THE KIMBERLEY COAST and mangroves. See Phillip Parker King's 'Nine Pin' and catch a glimpse of the local saltwater crocodile population along the Hunter River. Today you have the opportunity to take an optional helicopter excursion from Naturalist Island to see the mighty Mitchell Falls (own expense). BLD Day 8. Montgomery Reef, Doubtful Bay, Raft Point. Embark on an unforgettable adventure today as the Montgomery Reef 'rises' out of the ocean as the tidal waters cascade down into the surrounding channels. Board your Zodiac to experience this natural phenomenon up close and discover the reef's diverse marine life, including turtles. Also keep an eye out for unique birdlife that can be seen feeding on the reef as the tide recedes. Afterwards, cruise through Doubtful Bay and travel ashore at Raft Point, where you will embark on a hike to discover one of the region's most significant Wandjina art sites. BLD Day 9. Talbot Bay, Horizontal Falls. Talbot Bay is known for its massive 12-metre tides that create an amazing spectacle, the unique Horizontal Falls. Subject to tidal conditions, you will embark on an exhilarating ride through the falls on a specially designed high-powered fast boat. David Attenborough described the phenomenon as "one the greatest natural wonders of the world." Keep your eyes open in the chance you may get to see some of the local Tawny Nurse Shark population lurking in the brilliant turquoise waters. Back on board this evening, enjoy a delicious dinner in either the restaurant or al fresco on the Lido Deck (subject to weather). BLD Day 10. Lacepede Islands. Today, visit the pristine Lacepede Islands, a series of low islands atop a platform reef. Discovered by Frenchman Nicolas Baudin in 1801, the islands were named in honour of French naturalist Bernard Germain. Board a Zodiac and keep an eye out for many species of birdlife including Australian Pelicans, frigatebirds, egrets, gulls and terns.
