53 NORTHERN EUROPE Day 17. Riga, Freedom of Choice. Select from two sightseeing options in Riga, the Latvian capital. Perhaps wander the cobbled streets of the historic centre, where every corner is an architectural gem reflecting styles from all periods. Visit the beautiful Gothic-style St Peter's Church and perhaps admire the stunning views from the observation platform. Alternatively, embark on a kayaking journey through the city's stunning network of canals. BLD Day 18. Gotland Island, Visby, Freedom of Choice. Arrive on Gotland Island today and be greeted by the World Heritage- listed walled town of Visby. Perhaps enjoy a walking tour taking in the Kruttornet, a 12th-century tower, as well as the Botanical Gardens. Or head to Graute Farm to learn about life on a local sheep property. Then sample saffron pancakes and visit the Old Town. BLD Day 19. Klaipeda, Freedom of Choice. Founded in 1252, Klaipeda was almost destroyed during World War II. Here, perhaps set off on a sightseeing tour including the Martynas Mazvydas Sculpture Park, home to more than 180 works of art. Alternatively, discover the Plokstine nuclear missile launch site and visit the Cold War Museum. BLD Day 20. Gdansk. Arrive in the old Hanseatic port of Gdansk. See the old quarter including the Gothic St Mary's Church and the Artus Court. Visit Solidarity Square and the Angel of Freedom monument, before strolling the narrow cobbled streets of the Main Town. BLD Day 21. Christianso Island, Bornholm Island, Freedom of Choice. Today, visit Christianso Island and choose from three walking tours. Perhaps learn about everyday life on the island; discover the history of the island's fortress; or embark on a nature walk. Later, arrive on Bornholm Island and traverse the lush countryside for an afternoon of gourmet delights. Stopping in the Danish city of Helsingor, head for World Heritage-listed Kronborg Castle, which was immortalized in William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet.
