sheila I feature What one item do you wish you had in your bag and why? Probably more money! My boyfriend always jokes that he can't understand why I walk around with a $1500 handbag with not a cent inside my wallet. He says I should buy a $500 handbag so I can have $1000 in my wallet. He doesn't understand that if I did have another $1000 in my wallet I would probably go and buy another handbag with it. I only stayed for a year. I have used this so much. It was such a great investment as it has worn well over the years and all I have to do is purchase the affordable refills every year rather than buy a new diary. I couldn't live without this as I have a terrible memory and have to write everything down. iPhone: No need for an explanation here … who could live without their iPhone? email, facebook, internet, GPS, camera – all in one. Sunglasses: I hate not having sunnies with me so sometimes I have a few pairs in my bag. My current favourites are my Prism "Paris" nude mirrored sunnies. Fashionary: Fashionary is a diary/ journal made especially for designers. 28 SHEILA MARCH 2012 something I always CONSIDER QUALITY IS It looks like a moleskin but each page has very soft outlines of a model's figure so you can sketch outfits over them. I take mine with me everywhere in case I suddenly think of a design and have to scribble it in. Business cards: I usually have a couple in my bags just in case! USB stick: I always have one of these with my current season lookbooks and high-res images on it. What sort of things do you consider when choosing your handbag? Size, design, colour, unique qualities, etc ... Quality is something I always consider when I buy a handbag, which is why I don't mind spending a bit more money on a bag because I rationalise it through cost per wear. Over the years I have bought bags in all the staple colours like black, nude, brown and tan, so in the last two years or so I have bought some more radical bags. Last year I bought a canary yellow Balenciaga "Day" bag and an Alexander Wang denim blue leather shoulderbag. I wear a lot of colour, so I haven't had a problem incorporating these into my wardrobe. Handbags, I believe, can be quite an emotional purchase for women, like shoes. Sometimes you don't need them or they are a little impractical, but you just have to have them. That's kind of the way I have tended to buy handbags in the past ... If I love it, I will do everything in my power to own it. A few years ago I bought the Chanel 2.55 quilted bag, a classic. It barely fits anything in it (I can only get my phone and a lipstick in it, no wallet, just my cards and some cash) but I love it all the same.
