sheila I ed's notes follow us on sheila M (in this life at least) I have loved the blue stuff. When I see blue, I automatically associate it with summer skies and surf, two of the things I love most about being a sandgroper. So I was absolutely stoked when I started to see cobalt blue trending internationally because I knew it was something West Aussies would embrace. I hope you'll love our bower bird feature, just as much as I do. West Australian native bower birds are well known for collecting brightly-coloured objects (often cobalt blue) for their nests. Hence the theme for our spread. This edition, we welcome our awesome new art director, Lou Macleod, who has joined the Sheila team after working on some big-name glossies in London. Since I founded this magazine, it has been my dream to make it a world-class publication and I know I speak for the whole Sheila team and probably many of our readers when I say it is an absolute gift to have someone like Lou working on this magazine. I bet you love her new-look design. (And before you protest that Sheila is meant to support all things West Australian – let me tell you that Lou's mother is a proud West Aussie who married a Londoner.) Lou has lived what many people would regard as the high life – working on a string of glamorous mags with massive circulations – and yet she has chosen to aybe I was a bower bird in a previous life. Ever since I can remember 14 SHEILA MARCH 2012 I ED'S NOTES live and work in Perth. I love listening to her talk about how great this city is. It really makes me realise that it's easy to take for granted many of the great things about Perth. And before I sign off, I have to say Hip Hip Hooray – It's Our Birthday! To say it is a ridiculously difficult task to launch an indie publication like Sheila … and survive, is an understatement. person, following a dream. Today there are scores of others right behind me. I owe our success so far to a team that is exceptionally supportive to each other and to our readers. Excuse me for being indulgent, but on this milestone I want to thank Tracy Hill for believing in me, Stephen for taking a leap of faith, Lou for choosing us, Jason for his tireless enthusiasm and support, Team Kirwan – Karen Ollie and Millie who pull out all stops every single edition and the talented Elicia Rudd and Emily Howlett. To HR Brad – your heart of gold is unmatched and you definitely steered Sheila around that very big and seemingly overwhelming corner.
