In his role of chairman of City Vision, Ken aims to promote better planning and design of the capital city, better understanding, discussion and involvement in its future and to provide comment and ideas for its development. Not surprisingly, his passion for imaginative design is strongly apparent when you visit his own North Fremantle home. Ken says he designed the property to respect and fit in with its surrounding environment. "It was also designed to provide for human needs including comfort and the desire for beauty," he says. "It was not designed to impress or attract attention to itself." He says his aim, essentially, was to create a house that would be a joy to be in and share with family and friends. "It needed also to make good sense of its northern orientation, a view of the ocean across Gage Roads to Rottnest and the long view to the south of Cantonment Hill," he says. Building a home that accommodates WA's Mediterranean climate was also paramount – but he is by no means new to the concept of eco-friendly living.
