HISTORIC BROOME
Broome's history is as colourful as its landscape.
Cable Beach is named after the telegraph cable
laid between Broome and Java in 1889, connecting
this remote region to the world. Though it took
the lives of many Aboriginal, Chinese, Malay and
Japanese divers, Broome's audacious pearling past
has created today's lively multicultural society.
