Salay. Today you'll cruise to the village of Salay, a colourful religious centre. Visit Yoke Sone Kyaung, the region's oldest surviving wooden monastery resplendent with spectacular wood carvings and ancient religious artefacts. Salay is also home to Shinbin Maha Laba Man Paya, the largest lacquer Buddha image in Myanmar, believed to date from the 13th century. BLD Day 9. Tantkyi Hill, Bagan. Today, climb Tantkyi Hill to visit Tantkyitaung Pagoda, encircled by 32 elephant statues and believed to house tooth relics of Buddha. Back on board, capture your first glimpse of Bagan, an awe-inspiring archaeological site. On disembarking, travel to the revered masterpiece, the Ananda Temple, built in 1105 and known by many today as 'the Westminster Abbey of Myanmar'. This magnificent building houses four standing Buddhas facing North, South, East, and West. After time to explore here, head for the township of Nyaung-U, home to the golden Shwezigon Pagoda. BLD Day 10. Bagan. Today begins with an exciting visit to the bustling Nyaung-U market. Mingle with the locals and watch browse the wares that are sold at this trade hub. Visit a range of distinctive structures such as Gubyaukgyi Temple, a 13th-century 'cave temple' with an Indian-style spire, before you head to a lacquerware workshop and a local village for further insight into the local way of life and craftsmanship. Later, you will enjoy a special sunset viewing in Bagan at Pyathat Gyi or Dhamayazaka. BLD Day 11. Bagan, Yandabo. Depart Bagan for Yandabo, the location of the Treaty of the First Anglo-Burmese War signed during the mid-1920s. It is also famous for its terracotta pots which are made from the riverbank clay. BLD Day 12. Inwa. Arrive today in Inwa, an ancient imperial capital which has been rebuilt many times over the years. Like a Local – enjoy a tour by horse- drawn cart, taking in Maha Aung Mye Bon Zan Monastery and the striking teak-wood Bagaya Monastery. BLD Day 13. Sagaing, Mingun. In Sagaing, visit a silversmith's workshop then explore Soon U Ponya Shin and Kaunghmudaw pagodas. Later, cruise to Mingun and visit the 18th-century Mingun Pahtodawgyi. You'll also see the Mingun Bell and the Myatheindan Pagoda. Tonight, enjoy a cultural show on board. BLD Day 14. Mandalay. Like a Local – Visit Mandalay's Mahamuni Buddha Temple, where you may be able to add your own sheet of gold leaf to a statue of the Mahamuni Buddha. Then explore a range of workshops. Later, tour Shwenandaw Monastery; visit Kuthodaw Pagoda to see what is thought to be the world's largest book; and ascend Mandalay Hill for views out over the city.
