There is something special about the Kimberley. The feeling that overcomes you when you're there is something you will never forget. I still remember visiting Kununurra, Fitzroy Crossing, Geikie Gorge and Broome for the first time back in 1967. The sense of awe that was with me for that first trip has grown with every subsequent trip, and leaves me with a sense of longing should a year go by without visiting. The Pindan (red-soil) dirt gets in your veins and draws you back time after time. 2016 promises to be another special year in the Kimberley. Our small ship expedition cruises will be surveying the magnificent and often mystical Kimberley coast, which in my opinion is the last large intact coastline still considered to have low human impact outside of the Arctic and Antarctic regions. As for our 4WD Adventures, we are launching our Kimberley Challenge tours, which is ideal for the more adventurous bush walkers out there, looking to get further off the beaten track. As you may already know, the environment and our Aboriginal partners are very close to our hearts and 2015 was a big year for both. A landmark occurrence took place, when mining companies Rio Tinto and Alcoa voluntarily handed back a 175,000 hectare mining lease over the Mitchell Plateau, in return for it becoming a national park. Adjacent to this land, we have been hosting our guests at our eco-certified Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge since 2003, and are very proud of our new award- winning Ungolan Pavilion, which allows us to pamper our guests to new heights, previously not possible on the plateau. We also hope to introduce you to some very good friends of ours along the way. We have long- lasting relationships with the Imintji and Kandiwal Communities along the Gibb River Road and on the Mitchell Plateau, plus we are reconnecting with the Gidja and Djaru Communities, traditional owners of the country on which the World Heritage-listed Bungle Bungle Range resides and our Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge. We find these friendships very rewarding for the communities and our team, and look forward to continuing to provide more opportunities for the communities directly with our guests. We are looking forward to another fantastic dry season and hope you will let us show you an unforgettable adventure. Warm regards, Geoff McGeary OAM APT Company Owner Welcome to the Kimberley Rob, Geoff and Lou McGeary WELCOME TO THE KIMBERLEY 5
