25 Relax and enjoy the serene setting of St Moritz crossing the spectacular gorge at Brig. We then arrive in Zermatt and head to our lovely hotel, overlooked by the towering Matterhorn. The Matterhorn is completely unique; so magnetic that its detail and geometric splendour make it almost impossible to tear your gaze away. Stay (Four Nights): Zermatt, Parkhotel Beau Site. BLD Day 7. Zermatt, Gornergrat Mountain Railway. We make our ascent aboard the Gornergrat Mountain Railway today. Opened in 1898, it is the highest open-air cogwheel railway in Europe. The train climbs to the 3,000-metre-high summit of the Gornergrat and offers spectacular views of the Matterhorn. On a clear day here, you are able to count 29 icy peaks. After spending some time at the summit to enjoy the scenery and views over the Gornergletscher, the second largest glacier in the Alps, we descend and enjoy a guided tour of Zermatt. This pretty, eco-friendly town is a car-free zone, with timbered buildings and a beautiful English church dating back to 1870. BD Day 8. Stresa, Lake Maggiore. Board a train to Domodossola in Italy this morning, where we take a coach to Stresa, set on the shore of Lake Maggiore. On arrival, we take a cruise across the lake to the charming island of Isola Pescatore, a rustic fishing village boasting fantastic restaurants, boutique shops and tiny taverns. The island measures just 350 metres in length and is 100 metres wide, with around just 50 locals calling it home. Make sure you stop by the pretty chapel of San Vittore. We return to Zermatt for dinner this evening. BD Day 9. Zermatt. Explore Zermatt at your own pace today. Perhaps relax and take advantage of your hotel's excellent pool and spa facilities, enjoy a walk along one of the many marked trails or climb the Kleine Matterhorn. Another option is to use your First Class Swiss Travel Pass to explore further afield. The card allows discounted fares on most trains, buses and lake steamers. Among the most popular options available to you is a journey through the 'hundred valleys' on the Centovalli Railway, a narrow-gauge line that winds over high bridges, burrows through tunnels and passes sleepy villages to the town of Locarno, located on the shore of glistening Lake Maggiore. B Day 10. First Class Rail, Colmar. After breakfast, we travel via Visp to Basel, then join our onward service to Colmar, where we spend the night. Stay: Colmar, Grand Hotel Bristol. BD Day 11. Eurostar, London. Journey through the French countryside to Paris. Here we connect with a Eurostar service and continue on to London, where you'll bid farewell to your Tour Manager and newfound friends. Stay: London, Ambassadors Bloomsbury Hotel. BE Day 12. Depart London. After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
