Arrive Berlin. Upon arrival in Berlin, be met and transferred to your hotel in the city centre. Stay (Three Nights): Berlin, Maritim Hotel. D Day 2. Berlin. Today begins with a coach tour around the once- divided German capital, admiring impressive imperial buildings and introducing the sights of the former East Berlin. Afterwards, you'll have time to discover the city at your own pace. B Day 3. Potsdam. A morning coach tour past the Wannsee Lakes brings us to Potsdam, a former imperial city boasting magnificent examples of Baroque and Neoclassical architecture, whose entire centre is a World Heritage-listed site. We also visit Sanssouci Park. The park's name means 'care-free', and your concerns will slip away as we explore the beautiful gardens and royal buildings including Sanssouci Palace and the New Palace, where we enjoy a guided tour. BD Day 4. First Class Rail, Dresden. We leave Berlin for our journey by rail to Dresden, one of Germany's most beautiful cities. On arrival, a guided walking tour takes us to the city's famous sights including the Baroque Zwinger Palace, the grand Semper Opera House and Brühl's Terrace. Stay (Three Nights): Dresden, Maritim Hotel. BD Day 5. Moritzburg Palace. Enjoy a vintage steam train ride through the Saxony countryside to visit the exquisite Palace of Moritzburg, a former hunting castle of the Saxon royal family. Here, we take a guided tour before time to wander the idyllic grounds. B Day 6. Colditz Castle. Take an excursion to Colditz Castle, where we will be joined by a local guide for a tour. Built high on an outcrop above the sleepy town, this Renaissance fortress has served as a hunting lodge and a hospital in its long history. But the castle gained its renown as the infamous 'bad boys' camp, a maximum security prisoner of war facility during World War II. Soak in the history at the castle's museum, after which you might like to descend to the tunnel built by French prisoners. BD Day 7. First Class Rail, Prague. Bidding Dresden goodbye, we travel by train through a picturesque region of dramatic crags, peaks and rocky gorges known as Saxon Switzerland. Continue winding through the Bohemian countryside, before reaching the Czech Republic and Prague. Stay (Two Nights): Prague, Hotel Ambassador.
