44 THE STIRRING SAMBURU LANDSCAPES Day 21. Mt Kenya, Samburu National Reserve. Named after the nomadic Samburu people who move about the plains tending to sheep and cattle, Samburu National Reserve is a true hidden gem. While it may not be Kenya's most popular park it is certainly one of the most pristine, and its untouched landscapes are alive with an array of unique species such as Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe and the beisa oryx. Travel by 4WD through grassland and acacia forests to your camp, where stylish tents are set amid riparian forest on the Ewaso Nyiro River. The area is frequented by hippos, whose antics you may be able to watch from your private verandah. Two Night Stay: Samburu National Reserve, Larsens Tented Camp. BLD Day 22. Samburu National Reserve. Plunge into the wilds of Samburu National Reserve on a morning game drive. With luck you will spot leopards and cheetahs, as well as unusual bird species including lilac-breasted rollers and wattled starlings. Later, experience the culture of the Samburu people during a visit to a local village. The Samburu people still wear colourful dress and move from place to place with their livestock. Learning about such traditions makes for an enlightening discovery today. BLD Day 23. Samburu National Reserve, Masai Mara. Fly to the Masai Mara, one of Africa's great game reserves which is also home to the Maasai people who have lived here for centuries. Shortly after arriving, head off-road through the savannah on your first game drive. This is one of the best places in Africa to spot big game so be sure to keep watch. Three Night Stay: Masai Mara, Karen Blixen Camp. BLD EXPERIENCE THE MASAI MARA Day 24. Masai Mara, Freedom of Choice. Enjoy a morning game drive, then set out on a nature walk or learn about Maasai beading. After lunch at camp, spend some time at a Maasai village. Wonder awaits on an evening game drive as the animals become more active. Raise a glass and celebrate your experience with sundowner drinks before returning to camp. BLD Day 25. Masai Mara. Spend today exploring at leisure or relaxing at your camp. This evening, enjoy an unforgettable bush dinner under the African night sky. BLD Day 26. Masai Mara, Depart Nairobi. Board an included flight back to Nairobi this morning, where you will proceed to your onward flight.
