It was fun watching the white horses race to the other side to cross the finish line. I was sitting at the edge of the bridge. I sunk my feet into something that felt like an oven. I looked down and saw my blue reflection. I looked at the rocks as they showed their unusual faces. I love the beach! By TOM KANFONONGA, 9, Goldfields Primary School, Cromwell THE CLIMBER The treacherous cliffs were threatening the climber to fall. The occasional avalanche thundered up ahead. The climber glanced down. A detailed map lay before him, smudged out by the hovering clouds. Patches of snow and ice clung to the rocks. Dangerous hazards at every turn. The climber looked down again. His friend was standing on a cliff, searching for the deadly black ice. This time the climber stumbled. The whole edge of his rock gave way. The climber waved his snow axe in the air, searching desperately for something to break his fall. Fortunately his snow axe stuck to something hard. Nervous yells sounded in the air… his friend's blurred face came into view. The climber was conscious once again. They continued their journey, more cautious this time. Miniature gusts of wind tended to make the rocks tumble down. The climbers were thankful for their protective gear. The distant sounds from below echoed eerily in the air.
