All of the Buddies are carefully trained and have loads of experience to handle every issue or situation we come across. What is so special about Kidsline in New Zealand? We are very lucky to have Kidsline because it is one of the only "near peer" services available here. That means that kids get to talk to other kids just a few years older than they are, and sometimes this can be easier than speaking with a parent or adult. What do you enjoy most about being a Buddy? Tell someone how you're feeling Talking about your feelings is really important for a whole bunch of reasons. Did you know that while you're telling someone else what or how you feel, you might just figure it out for yourself! For lots of people, it might be the very first time you've really had to think about your feelings, and so it can help to make sense of it for yourself! Talk to someone you trust When you have a friend, family member or trusted person listening, it can feel great to know that they are there for you. We know that it does help to talk about what you're feeling, especially around times of change (like a new school year). I've enjoyed making new friends and just helping out the callers wherever I can. Through all of this, Kidsline has become a large part of my life and I know that the skills and experiences I have had here will stay with me for the rest of my life. Kidsline definitely is! There might be people in your life too that you can trust and can be there to listen when you want to talk. Ask yourself; who do you like talking to, and feel OK and safe talking to? Perhaps there's someone at school (like a teacher or a really close friend), at home, or somewhere else that you think is right to talk to. Going back to school needn't be a drag. If you're feeling even a little uneasy, or really worried for whatever reason, talk to someone about it right away or give Kidsline a call. Sharing your feelings with someone you trust will help make you feel better. I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed – Michael Jordan 43 Upstart Mag azine
