Money / Moni Power n a n d Pinger Brought to you by ASB s a v New Year, New Goals! By TESSA JOHNSTONE Illustrations by our ACE cartoonist, GRANT BROWN Take aim, then shoot – you score! The crowd goes wild! We're not talking about football goals but your 2012 life goals are kind of the same. You set your sights on something, figure out how to get there, then when you achieve it, the crowd (or your Mum and Dad at least) go wild. What is a goal? "Everyone has inside them a piece of good news. The good news is you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!" – ANNE FRANK 24 A smart person once said: Goals are dreams with deadlines. It's a good way of explaining it. Do you ever find yourself day-dreaming about being a millionaire, a famous writer, an All Black, a singer in a band or a famous artist? Well, that might not happen before the end of 2012 – but you can set some smaller goals – like baby-steps towards your big goals. Goals can be big or small. You might just want to get more exercise, save some money, or show people how much you appreciate them. Here are some examples of goals: • I will write a short story or poem for . • I will try out for the school rugby team, go to all the practises and try my hardest every game. February / March 2012 ch 2012 • I will introduce myself to one new person every week, so I can get to know new people. • I will show my dog how much I love him by taking him for a walk every day, even when I don't feel like it or when it's raining. • I will earn $200 to put into my savings account.
