WIN! E Kickin' butt Hi Upstart, This is me at karate camp. We worked about six hours a day, but it was worth it because when I went to grading I went up a belt! – LOUIS SKILTON, 9, Lyttleton Main School, Christchurch Year 6 sport star! Hi Upstart, I was chosen from all the Year 6's and received the sports award at my school's prizegiving in December. I am very happy to have my name engraved on this trophy for others to be motivated by – MIKEL CENIZA, 11, St Peter's College, Auckland My first netball year Hi Upstart, Last year I played netball for the first time. Mum was an assistant coach, and our coach was a guy called Nigel. I most often played centre and wing attack. I like netball because it is a team sport and you learn how to work with other people – SUMMER PRITCHARD, 10, Westmere Primary School, Auckland Hey Upstart, I recently became a New Zealand champion at the Jump Jam Idol held in November. The year before I had placed second, so I was determined to win this time! The Jump Jam Idol is when you learn a Jump Jam routine and you then have to instruct the routine to a large crowd. You are judged on your Jammin' it! instruction and have to get as many marks as you can to determine whether you are the National Champion for 2011. I WON the Year 4-6 boys' category. I am so very proud of myself and I am looking forward to next year! I will definitely be back again – JOHNSON BISHOP, 10, Hilltop School, Taupo Hi Upstart, I just recently finished my second year of rugby. This is a photo of me after a muddy day of rugby with the 'Player of the Day' trophy for scoring four tries. I was one of the best in my team and was awarded the 'Most Valuable Player' award – BEN MITCHELL, 11, Greenhithe School, Auckland Kicked a goal, scored a try, just started a new sport, tried really hard at something? Hey Upstart, My sister and I just started dancing in 2011. I won the trophy for the Most Promising in Hip Hop. My sister also won a trophy for the Best Attitude in Funk. Our parents were so proud. We had an end of year concert and I danced even though I had a huge cut under my knee. My mum had to bandage up my leg so I could dance – MATTHEW COOMBE, 10, Glamorgan School, North Shore, Auckland The difference between the possible and the impossible lies in your determination! www.upstartmag.co.nz My sister and I at the prizegiving. 57 A C H I V E M E N T MY SPORTS
