She's really quite excellent at many things, including looking after her two younger sisters, Sage and Star Anise. Most of all, Saffron is quite excellent at travelling. She knows a lot about countries around the world and she LOVES to share her adventures with other kids. You'll get to read all about Saffron and her adventures in every issue of Upstart Magazine this year. There's a chance to win some of Saffron's books on page 12. Later gators! Sue and the Upstart crew editor@upstartmag.co.nz When I was three... When I was three, Dad and I went to the supermarket. Dad said: "Please can you hold on to this?" It was one dollar. Dad wanted to get some beers for the rugby. I went with Dad to the beer section and he stopped and turned and looked at the beer. I went straight past him to the lolly section. When Dad noticed I wasn't there he started to panic and raced around calling my name. I was too busy staring at the lollies to hear my Dad screaming out my name. An old, old lady saw me by myself and took me to my Dad. I ran to Dad and he gave me a hug and let me buy something. Dad decided that next time he would hold my hand all the time! – THOMAS ARSCOTT, 9, St Patrick's School, Bryndwr, Christchurch 14 February / March 2012 ch 2012 Lachie gets stitches I was making a wand out of wood I found at the back of Pop's garage. While I was shaving the wood, the blade flicked up and cut me just above my lip. I yelled and Nan came running. Molly called Pop and Mum on Nana's cellphone and they raced home immediately. I put some toilet paper on it and held on tightly till we got to the After Hours Clinic. There was HEAPS of blood! The nurse put two stitches in, but it didn't hurt because it was numb. Pop drove us home and Jack kept asking, 'can I see your stitches?'. So... the next time I use a Stanley knife I am not going to shave wood towards me. I am always going to shave the wood away from me and this will not happen again! – LACHIE OWENS, 9, St Patrick's School, Bryndwr, Christchurch SHOUT OUT: Thanks to my soccer coach for teaching my soccer team last term – CAITLIN BROWN, 8, Drury School, Papakura To , You rule! I think your mags are the best in THE WORLD! – JACKSON GIBBONS, 11, Waimauku School, Auckland Don't forget to facebook us at www.facebook.com/upstartmag to tell us what you've been up to.
