Often referred to as The Rock, the small island was developed with facilities for a lighthouse, a military fortification, a military prison and a federal prison from 1933 until 1963. On arrival here, you'll learn about the history of the prison and its infamous inmates during a fascinating tour of this National Historic Landmark. This afternoon, head to Yosemite National Park, located in Central California's Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Spend time at leisure here to explore as you wish before dinner. Later, journey along 17-Mile Drive, considered to be one of the most scenic drives in the world. Marvel at the treasures along the way including Spanish Bay and Cypress Point Lookout. Arrive in Carmel which has attracted artists and celebrities for decades. Here, you'll enjoy an enchanting walking tour highlighting the artist culture of the town, along with its finest shops and restaurants. End your day back in the town of Monterey.
