94 Day 1. Arrive Rome. Arrive in the ancient city of Rome and be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Head out to explore the wonders of the 'Eternal City' with a local guide. See the ruins of the Forum then take in the magnificent Colosseum. Visit St Peter's in Chains Basilica, home to Michelangelo's 'Moses' statue. Continue to the Pantheon, a circular temple dating back to 118 AD. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner. Stay (Two Nights): Rome, NH Vittorio Veneto. D Day 2. Rome, Vatican City. Embark on a guided tour of the Vatican City. Take in the sweeping expanses of St Peter's Square before exploring the Vatican Museums, home to many of the world's greatest sculptures and paintings, including Michelangelo's frescoed ceiling of the magnificent Sistine Chapel. Enhance Your Journey: Perhaps enjoy a tour of Villa d'Este (see page 118). B Day 3. Rome, Sorrento. Traverse cliffs overlooking the sparkling waters of the Bay of Naples across to Mt Vesuvius. Arrive in beautiful Sorrento. Stay (Two Nights): Sorrento, Hotel Michelangelo. B Day 4. Capri, Sorrento. Cruise across the stunning azure waters to the Isle of Capri. A resort island for Roman emperors, it boasts a wealth of fascinating history. Visit Villa San Michele and the main village of Capri for a locally guided walk. Like a Local – enjoy a drive along the stunning Amalfi Coast before sharing an authentic meal with an Italian family. BD Day 5. Sorrento, Pompeii, San Gimignano. Explore the ruins of ancient Pompeii this morning. Engulfed by the lava from Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD, the site provides a vivid picture of ancient Roman life. Afterwards, travel to San Gimignano. Special Stay – immerse yourself in the Tuscan countryside. Stay: San Gimignano, Relais La Cappuccina. BD Day 6. San Gimignano, Florence. Spend the morning exploring San Gimignano at leisure before heading to Florence. Savour a Tuscan lunch at Castello Vicchiomaggio. Later, perhaps explore the many museums and artisan shops, before an evening at leisure. Stay (Two Nights): Florence, Hotel Firenze. BL Day 7. Florence. Explore this jewel of the Renaissance, home to some of Italy's most famous names – Dante, Da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Medicis. Florence, Verona, Venice. In romantic Verona, take in sights including the Roman Arena and Juliet's balcony. Later, head to Venice, one of the world's most beautiful cities.
