Arrive Lima (Peru). On arrival in Peru's capital city, Lima, be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for a Welcome Reception. Stay (Two Nights): Lima, Casa Andina Select Miraflores. Day 2. Lima. On a city tour of Lima: explore the city's World Heritage-listed historic centre; be awe-struck by the amazing architecture of Plaza San Martin; see Santo Damingo Monastery; and visit the lavish Casa Aliaga, the oldest colonial house in Latin America, built in 1535. Like a Local – delight in a Pisco Sour and learn how Peru's most famous beverage is made. B Day 3. Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley. Fly to Cusco and travel to the Sacred Valley. From here, visit the markets of Pisac, a hilltop handicraft village. Afterwards, visit the ruins of Pisaq. This afternoon and evening are then at your leisure. Special Stay – experience the breathtaking surrounds of the Sol y Luna Lodge & Spa during a two-night stay. Stay (Two Nights): Sacred Valley, Sol y Luna Lodge & Spa. B Day 4. Sacred Valley. Today, visit the Terraces of Moray and learn how the Inca people cultivated plants. A Taste of the Sacred Valley – visit the home of a local family and enjoy the chance to sample a typical Andean home-cooked meal. You'll then visit the salt mines of Maras and see incredible landscapes created by this industrial pursuit and marvel at the view from above the mines, as you overlook the vast valley below. Since pre-Inca times, salt has been obtained here by evaporating salty water from a subterranean stream. BL Day 5. Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu. Like a Local – today you'll board the Vistadome train and soak up the magnificent Andean landscapes as you enjoy a rail journey to World Heritage-listed Machu Picchu, located some 2,400 metres above sea level. On arrival here, learn about the history of the Lost City of the Incas during a locally guided tour. Experience firsthand the beauty of what is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and the most familiar icon of the Inca Empire. Afterwards, settle in to your lovely hotel before dinner this evening. Stay: Aguas Calientes, El MaPi Hotel. BD Day 6. Machu Picchu, Cusco. Perhaps revisit Machu Picchu at leisure this morning, then re-board the Vistadome train for the return journey to Cusco. Like a Local – during a weaving demonstration, see how the colourful materials of South America are created by local people, and learn of their importance in preserving ancient traditions.
